Five Dangerous Prayers

Several years ago I read a devotion written by Bill Hybels, Senior Pastor of Willow Creek Community Church, entitled, Five Dangerous Ways to Pray. In thinking about the process of growing in relationship with God and in our understanding of His purposes for our lives, I wonder what would happen at New Life Church if we each began to pray these dangerous prayers?

Search Me (Psalm 139: 23, 24)
The truth is, the closer my heart draws to Jesus, the easier it is to see the things in my heart that hinder my intimacy with Him. He loves me too much to leave me in deception about my own sin.

Break Me (Psalm 34:18)
Jesus longs to heal my brokenness. When I come to Him with a humble heart, I meet Him as my Healer spiritually, emotionally, physically, and relationally. This prayer of surrender is a prayer of freedom from fruitless attempts to heal myself.

Stretch Me (Acts 4:29)
To be stretched means simply to be brought beyond my own limits. If I expect to become all God intends for me to be I must reach beyond my limits and live in His.

Lead Me (Psalm 25:5)
When I pray for Jesus to lead me, I discover that the path always leads directly to Him. Asking God to lead your life is risky. I must believe He loves me and that His plans are better than mine.

Use Me (2 Corinthians 4:7)
Every person who is used by God and has gone through the process of searching, breaking, stretching, and leading is someone whose focus is on God. Will I make myself available to God through this process so He can touch someone else through me?
